Measurement Uncertainties in Wear Rates
نویسندگان
چکیده
Measurement uncertainties are vital to discussions of differences in measured values, yet they scarcely accompany discussions of wear and wear rates in the tribology literature. In this methods article, approaches to calculate uncertainties in single-point and steady-state wear rates are presented. The analysis includes analytical treatments of uncertainties for typical macroscopic tribology instrumentation. A fully statistical treatment using Monte Carlo simulations is also presented and discussed for steady-state wear rate uncertainty analysis for an arbitrary number of interrupted measurements of volume loss.

Risk measurement in the global supply chain using monte-carlo simulation
Nowadays, logistics and supply chain management (SCM) is critical to compete in the current turbulent markets. In addition, in the global context, there are many uncertainties which affect on the market. One of the most important risks is supplier disruption. The first step to cope with these uncertainties is quantifying them. In this regard many researches have focused on the problem but measu...
متن کاملWear Performance of Ceramic-On-Metal Hip Bearings
Ceramic-on-metal (CoM) bearings are considered to be a promising alternative to polyethylene-based bearings or hard-on-hard bearings (Ceramic-on-Ceramic (CoC) and Metal-on-Metal (MoM)). Although, CoM shows lower wear rates than MoM, in-vitro wear testing of CoM shows widely varying results. This may be related to limitations of wear-measuring methods. Therefore, the aim of this study was to imp...
متن کاملCost reduction of wear-out monitoring by measurement point selection
Early failure rates have increased due to reduced feature dimensions and electromigration wear-out. Periodic delay measurements can be employed to estimate the state of wear-out. Including delay measurement sensors on-chip is costly. Therefore, a method is proposed to reduce the number of measurement points. The method identifies wear-out sensitive interconnects and selects a small number of me...
متن کاملA review of the influence of environmental humidity and water on friction, lubrication and wear
A review is given of the various ways in which humidity and liquid water can influence the friction and wear of metals, polymers, carbons and graphite, lamellar solid lubricants and ceramics. Compared with dry sliding, water usually reduces friction of materials to a limited extent, except for MoS2, but wear rates change depending on the materials concerned. Most of the fundamental mechanisms i...

The introduction of numerous formulations of Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), which is widely used as a bearing material in orthopedic implants, necessitated screening of bearing couples to identify promising iterations for expensive joint simulations. Pin-on-disk (POD) testers capable of multidirectional sliding can correctly rank formulations of UHMWPE with respect to their ...
